Sheila: Simply the Best

sheilaEvery week Sheila puts a huge smile on our faces and this week we were spoiled by endless hilarity. From her saucy ‘Book of Secrets’ inspired fantasies about Lou and later Paul (we were cringing and laughing in all the right places!) to being cling-filmed to Paul in the freezer – she was on top form. The beauty of Sheila is teaming her fun factor with a huge heart but she’s exactly the type of brash matriarch Neighbours does so well. We love seeing her softer side too and we think she was just what Paul needed.

Josh and Naomi

jomiIf you’d said a year, or even six months, ago that we’d be really enjoying Josh’s scenes we’d have thought you were mad! Since splitting with Amber, Josh has come into his own and Harley Bonner has really shone in all of Josh’s interactions. The Josh and Naomi hook up may have come out of the blue but it was fun and sexy. We adore Naomi so letting her unleash her flirty ways was an enjoyable sight. We predict total carnage when their mothers find out!

Loving Lou

louWe were delighted to see the log awaited return of Lou Carpenter this week. Erinsborough has missed him after a prolonged absence and it was great to see him get stick in immediately, sparring with Kathy, counselling Lauren and meeting his new granddaughter. Not only did Tom Oliver get a chance to stretch his acting chops but his involvement in the wonderful ‘Book of Secrets’ plot was Neighbours comedy. After too many years of being ignored, it’s great to see the character being used properly at last and long may it continue.

Vicious Vendettaterese

We’re very big fans of Terese on this site, so it’s sad to see her land on our ‘Miss List’ this week for her and Matt’s vendetta against Paige. Don’t get us wrong, we understand their fears (and given that illicit kiss between Brad and Lauren, Terese has more to worry about than she even knows) but we can’t help but feel they’re taking things too far. Yes, Paige hasn’t acted with honesty but trying to drive her out of their lives will solve nothing and put their marriages under even more strain! It’s time for Terese and Matt to swallow their pride and make peace.

Throat Fearsgeorgia

Georgia and Kyle faced another obstacle this week as Georgia’s sore throat needed a biopsy. In true soap fashion Georgia didn’t come clean with Kyle straight away and snapped at him as she kept her fears private. We’re already fed up with these two falling out and making up every other week. Georgia works best when she’s in lightweight comedy stories so throwing her into another plot where she’ll have to be too earnest and troubled just isn’t our bag. Will this mean she won’t be able to sing her only song at the wedding?! Oh no.

Scene of the Week – 25-29 Aug 2014

sceneof theweek

When it came to scene of the week, it’s two in a row for the ongoing Paige plot. This week she finally had a stand-off with granny Kathy, and sought the answers she’s wanted to know all her life. Olympia continues to prove herself a fantastic new signing for the show and the wonderful Tina Bursill excels in her role as the ice-cold, calculating Kathy. With strong performances, a tense atmosphere and the eventual realisation that the women are more alike each other than they ever thought, this scene had us gagging for more of the complex Kathy’s relationship with her new-found granddaughter.

Thepaige Paige Reveal

The Paige reveal this week resulted in so much tension and climax that it definitely lived up to the hype. We’ve been waiting for these moments for so long and from the scene Kathy found out we were biting our fingernails in anticipation of Lauren and Brad’s discovery. Lauren’s realisation and chase of the bus left us breathless waiting for mother and daughter to reunite and when they finally did we were left with an emotional pay-off too. Already Paige has made a huge impact on the Turner and Willis families and with Terese and Matt remaining suspicious we can’t wait to see what happens next.

Classic Comedytoadie

Neighbours excels at comedy like no other and it’s been no exception this week with all the humour surrounding Toadie’s unfortunate backside injury and the hilarious Book of Secrets plot. We love that show has dared to be a little bit saucier in its innuendo lately! From Toadie’s high fibre diet to the total turn off of Dr Karl being revealed as the erotica writer – there have been so many laugh out loud moments.

lucyThe Return of Lucy Robinson

We are delighted to see fan favourite Lucy Robinson back on the street. She provides some much-needed family for Paul and it’s always great to have another character. Better still, it’s good to see Lucy have have a story of her own after all this time. Lucy would be even higher on our list had more time been devoted to her friendship with Chris. As it is, a fantastic plot for Lucy has got off to a rushed start but we still have high hopes for the future of ‘Chrucy’.

The Weirdness of Daniel

danielSlipping down in our estimations is Daniel Robinson. Despite a good first impression (who didn’t love his inspired first scenes?!) the character has failed to live up to his full potential. We blame this partly on his boring relationship with Amber but also on the writing of the character. The first line between quirky and weird is being crossed and we can only hope the show can quickly rectify the situation. Daniel, and Tim Phillips, are too good to waste.

Self-centred Amber
On paper Amber Turner’s plights this week would seem sympathetic. She’s seemingly amberapologetic about hooking up with Daniel behind Josh’s back but her dad is disappointed in her cheating and her only friends hate her, and her position in the family is under threat with Paige’s revelation. However Amber is just so self-absorbed and unlikeable it’s hard not to – at best – roll our eyes at her attitude, and – at worst – find her completely intolerable. This week, it’s the latter.

Scene of the Week – 18-22 Aug 2014

sceneof theweek sc1

There was some stiff competition when it came to choosing a scene of the week – merely from this one story alone! However, in the end, there could only be one winner. Months of waiting paid off beautifully when Lauren was finally reunited with missing daughter Paige and the pair shared an emotional heart to heart. Wonderfully acted and written, Kate Kendall and Olympia Valance excelled themselves and made the reveal worth waiting for. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for the extended families.
